In the Analytics Suite 2, you have the possibility to create Custom Organic Sources. This allows you to classify certain referrers inside specific categories. The most common case is to create rules to classify visits coming from social media.
You can create those rules in the following interface: Configuration > Others > Custom Organic Sources.
There is two important aspects to consider before creating your Custom Organic Sources rules:
- The order in which your groups are created is important.
- The rules are not taken into account as a whole string chain but character by character.
Those two aspects can be illustrated by the following example:
Group | Règle | |
Group #1 | pinterest.co | |
Group #2 | t.co |
With this configuration, if a visitor comes to your website from a "t.co" referrer, the source will be categorised as "Pinterest". Indeed, the Pinterest is the first group, so its rule will be applied first, and the rule "pinterest.co" takes into account "t.co", as they both share the character chain "t.co".
