Visitors vs Unique Visitors metrics

Over a single day, visitors are deduplicated. The "Visitors" and "Unique Visitors" metrics are thus identical over a single day period.

  Monday Tuesday Wednesday
Stromae 1 visit 3 visits 1 visit
Shakira 2 visits 0 visits 1 visit
Visitors 2
Unique Visitors 1 2

Beyond a single day, only the Unique Visitors are deduplicated.

  Monday Tuesday Wednesday Weekly total
Stromae 1 visit 3 visits 1 visit
Shakira 2 visits 0 visits 1 visit
Visitors 2 5 visitors
Unique Visitors
1 2 2 unique visitors

How does AT Internet distinguish Visitors and Unique Visitors?

AT Internet's data is based on:

  • the cookie
  • or a client ID generated on your end
    • idclient in xtcore.js, userIdentifier in smarttag.js (documentation), for example in the case of an intranet
    • Android ID or UUID for mobile apps
  • or the IP and UA on the user's browser

These IDs enable us to generate an identifier that will appear in the interface under "Unique Visitor ID". It is this identifier that allows us to calculate Visitors and Unique Visitors.

Identified Visitors

If your site has a login feature, you can track these logins and the associated users via Identified Visitor tracking: click here for the full documentation.

Only one Identified Visitor value can be recorded for a visit.

The data is displayed under the "Visitor ID (Identified visitors)" dimension in the interface.

  • If the ID is numerical, it will also appear under "Visitor ID (num) (Identified visitors)"
  • If the ID is alphanumerical, it will also appear under "Visitor ID (text) (Identified visitors)"
