A segmentation engine is available in the cross-site, cross-device and cross-source analyses.
This on-the-fly segmentation engine does not require exiting the User Insights application to create a new segment, it can be defined directly in the segmentation bar at the top of the interface.
Segments created in the beta version cannot be saved for the moment.
When clicking on “add a segment” a series of dimensions will appear. Please select the dimension that you want to segment with, and click OK. A list of elements related to the selected dimension will then appear allowing you to select the segment’s precise scope. Example: Device elements are Mobile, Desktop, etc.
You can select up to 10 elements per dimension.
It is possible to combine criteria of up to 3 different dimensions using an “AND” combination. For example: Visitors who came from the Country = France & Browser = Firefox. To do so, please select the first dimension and the required elements. To add a second dimension, click on the segment’s settings icon and select “Edit the segment”:
Once you have created a segment, it is instantly applied to your analysis and remains active when browsing throughout the 3 User Insights menu entries.
Only 1 segment can be activated at a time. When a segment is in yellow, it means that it is activated. You can deactivate or delete the segment via the “Settings” icon.
Even though only 1 segment can be applied at the same time, you can still create up to 3 segments at the same time and click on them to activate / deactivate each of them. This feature can be very helpful when trying to compare various elements without having to delete each segment every time.
As User Insights is a “visitor”-oriented environment, the segment engine will include all visitors who have met the segment’s conditions during at least 1 of their visits. Let’s take the example of a visitor who visited a website last week 2 times via 2 different sources: “sponsored links” and “direct traffic”. When creating a segment containing “direct traffic”, it will include our visitor because he has made 1 visit corresponding to the segment.
